Founder & Ceo
Smita Netra is a biotech engineer and MBA graduate turned textile designer, proving that career paths don’t have to be linear—they just have to be passionate. After years in the corporate world, she felt the pull toward something more creative, something deeply connected to her roots. That spark led to Banyan & Birch, where she reimagines India’s rich textile traditions for modern homes.
But her creativity doesn’t stop at design—when she’s not working with artisans, you’ll find her on stage as a trained contemporary dancer, proving that storytelling isn’t just for fabrics, but for movement too.
Namratha Ajai
Creative & marketing head
With a background in Economics and an MBA in Advertising, Namratha traded the corporate world to build something of her own. Drawn by her sister-in-law Smita’s vision, she dove headfirst into the world of textiles, excited to shape a brand from the ground up. She brings over eight years of experience in digital marketing and brand strategy.
At Banyan & Birch, she leads all things creative and marketing, blending her creative instincts with strategic thinking to bring the brand’s story to life every day
